MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - April 25, 2007) - This past April 24th, it is with great pride that the Jeune Chambre de commerce de Montreal (JCCM) launched, in the context of a training session which it offered, the Guide du bureau vert and its first Bilan de durabilite. The training session focussed on the implementation of recommendations issued from its briefs on social responsibility and climate change. The production of these two publications, a first for a Young Chamber of Commerce, demonstrates the JCCM's leadership in terms of social and environmental responsibility.

These initiatives coincide with the mission of the JCCM, which provides its members with activities that foster professional and personal development, while concentrating its efforts on the promotion of the former's interests and the success of the field in which they are evolving.

 The Bilan de durabilite

The JCCM celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2006 and highlighted those historic years by publishing its first sustainability balance sheet. This balance sheet sheds light on the economic, social, and environmental impact of its activities; hence it allows the JCCM to continually innovate, maximize its environmental efforts, administer using the highest standards of transparency and improve its efficiency. The JCCM is just as concerned with social and community matters as seen through the application of its rigorous social responsibility policy, the support of several organizations in addition to the organization of community oriented activities.

 The Guide du bureau vert

The JCCM also created a guide whose objective is to allow employees and ambassadors of green committees to adopt environmentally friendly practices within their business. This complete guide proposes a series of simple actions that employees and employers can implement within their respective organizations. The guide is divided into sections such as mode of transportation, kitchen and coffee nook, office supplies and electronics and the washroom. In keeping with the actions proposed in the guide, an exemplary Guide du bureau vert employee would make their way to work by means of public transportation or by bike, serve themselves a coffee in a reusable cup, print their documents double-sided, use the hand drier in the washroom and turn off the office lights before leaving. "We are very pleased with the work of the collaborators involved in the elaboration of the Guide du bureau vert", remarked France- Eliane Nolet, President of the JCCM. "This year we gave a second breath to this tradition so that social and community involvement might become second nature to our members."

Training Session: How to implement socially responsible practices into your business?

The launching of the Bilan de durabilite and the Guide du bureau vert took place in the context of a training session offered gratuitously to members of the JCCM by Richard Petersen, Principal Vice-President, Corporate Social Responsibility, NATIONAL Public Relations and Mr. Yves-Thomas Dorval, Head of Public Affairs, Imperial Tobacco Canada who came to discuss the implementation of the various recommendations of the JCCM's brief at ITC. The JCCM wanted to offer concrete tools for helping both members and non-members implement these recommendations within their businesses and daily lives.

The Bilan de durabilite, the Guide du bureau vert and the two briefs "Responsabilite sociale des entreprises: chacun doit faire sa part en vue d'accroitre la performance et le niveau de confiance a l'egard de nos entreprises" and "Pour une metropole mieux adaptee aux changements climatiques" are available on the JCCM website: www.jccm.org  (Related)  .
