Better Living Show: Annual event a plus for community
Bluefield Daily Telegraph From home furnishings and educational opportunities to office supplies and arts and crafts, the Better Living Show is once again showcasing the region’s finest to residents and visitors.
Sponsored by the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce, the show has become one of the annual rites of spring for many people across the two Virginias.
For businesses, the show is an opportunity to showcase their wares to the public; for residents, it’s a chance to see and sample new products and visit with friends and neighbors.
Now in its 28th consecutive year, the show has evolved from a business showcase to a true community event. Those attending the Better Living Show will have the opportunity to attend a number of seminars on important topics such as identity theft, living wills and health issues.
Even pet owners have their own niche this year with a seminar on pet first aid by the American Red Cross and information on pet adoption services provided by Pet Haven.
Other special events this year include free antique appraisals, health seminars and an opportunity to see the American Saddlebred horse, Katie’s Rob Roy.
And don’t forget the goodies and prizes.
Among this year’s treasures are a five-day, four-night trip to the Daytona-Orlando area, a New River rafting trip, numerous gift certificates and a chance to grab cash in the money machine.
More than 90 vendors will be on hand at this year’s show, which opened Friday and continues today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“They will have everything from home furnishings to communications to home and garden,” Chamber Executive Director Marc Meachum said. “And all sorts of ATVs, spas, a little bit of everything. We have a really good cross section.”
Meachum noted there is always something new for visitors to the show. “Exhibitors often surprise us with what they have.”
And that, we believe, is a good thing.
Whether you’re an annual visitor to the Better Living Show or an infrequent guest, we urge you to stop by this year’s show and enjoy the event. It’s an opportunity to support local businesses while having a good time and, perhaps, winning some great prizes.
We also commend the chamber staff and many volunteers for their dedication in coordinating this yearly event. The community certainly benefits from their hard work and effort.
