The first-round leader of the 62nd U.S. Women's Open could not possibly epitomize any more the young, international direction the LPGA Tour is taking.
Angela Park is an 18-year-old tour rookie who has Korean parents, was born and retains citizenship in Brazil, has lived in the United States since she was 8, and speaks English, Korean and Portuguese.
"I kind of mix and match everything together," said Park, who rode birdies on her first three holes to a 3-under-par 68 Thursday on a 6,644-yard Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club layout softened by ½-inch of rain overnight.
