In 1999, Gannon lost 32 pounds in three months to win a bet for a $150,000 polo pony named Lechuza from Australian media tycoon Kerry Packer, a Las Vegas high roller and billionaire who died of kidney failure in 2005. To boost his chances of winning the wager, Gannon hired an Argentinean soccer coach as a live-in personal trainer, paying him $4,000 a month plus a $15,000 bonus representing 10% of Lechuza's market value.
